What is trichology?
Trichology is a special branch of medicine that deals with hair problems, created by linking and using of knowledge in the fields of dermatology, pathologic anatomy, biology, and cosmetics. It seeks to provide us with answers to the question of how to maintain, and when possible, how to improve the quality of the hair and scalp.
The analysis of the problem and its causes is the key to successful treatment
A trichologic examination (a trichogram) defines the stage of damage to the hair and helps to determine who is and is not a suitable candidate for a possible transplant. Examination of numerous clients saved considerable amounts spent on costly transplants because its results helped to select any of the methods of conservative treatment, which is much less expensive.
In other words, the test lasting approximately 60 minutes with the price corresponding to the average dinner for two can save hundreds of euro spent on ill-chosen cosmetics and thousands for unnecessary transplantation.
It is therefore important to watch out for clinics that do not offer such testing to their clients. Obviously, they are more interested in their own economic benefit than in the client. On the contrary, PANACEA HAIR CLINIC has already included the trichogram in the initial consultation, in order to offer our clients a treatment method that is most suitable and financially advantageous for them.
What is the procedure?
The examination is executed by a dermatologist-trichologist using a dermatoscope, a device able to subtract the vast majority of hair and skin pathologies, and rightly determine the treatment strategy of your case.
Our experts pay high attention to the overall health history, because the quality of your hair is affected not only by how we care for it, but also by many other factors ‒ such as genetic information, nutrition, stress, hormonal changes, drug use, etc. During the examination is therefore a large space devoted to talking about the general health of the patient, their subjective perception of their hair problems and the results that are expected from treatment.
Trichogram examination includes:
- an overall assessment of the condition of hair and scalp
- a determination of the percentage of the number of follicular units of hair
- a calculation of the density of hairs in the header and front and top of your head
- a determination of the speed of growth and the daily loss of hair (trichometry)
- an analysis of the representation of hair in different growth stages (fototrichogram)
- a measurement of hair diameter and the assessment of percentage of the vellus, intermediate and terminal hair
- a detection of the presence of anomalous types of hair (dystrophic, cadaverous etc.)
- a determination of the type of alopecia or causes of increased hair loss
